It’s okay to start over, right?
Starting over in life can often feel scary… And it is scary. It’s scary to think that you’re giving up on something that you’re used to. It’s scary to think that you have to work on something totally new or very different now. It’s simply scary to start over, period.
It can seem like a new beginning or a reset sometimes. Sometimes our progress in what you’re currently doing isn’t always straightforward. We’re going to go through different ups and downs, advantages and set backs, or sometimes standstills where we feel like we’re not going anywhere.
When we decide to start on a new journey, we may envision a clear path toward our goals. This expectation can create pressure and lead us to believe that if we encounter setbacks, we are somehow failing. Yet, progress is not a linear pathway.
Each step, no matter how big or small, contributes to our overall growth.
Embracing the non-linear journey involves recognizing that setbacks can provide valuable lessons. These lessons help us to reflect, adapt, and build resilience. It’s important to keep in mind to celebrate the ups and downs because both are valuable experiences.
Mindfulness plays a role in understanding these crazy and complex feelings we might have along the way. By staying present and acknowledging our emotions throughout this journey, we create a deeper understanding of ourselves.
In essence, starting over is not about seeking the perfect path; it's about embracing the progress that unfolds in unexpected ways. It’s the results of experiences—both positive and negative—that shapes who we are. As we continue to move forward in life, we can find comfort in knowing that growth can be messy, and that every step is still part of our “starting over.”
